DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — On the last day of the week, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market closed in negative, after market capitalization and All Share index lower. The equity market capitalization marginally fell by TZS 9.11 billion (about US$4.2 million) to end at TZS 22,501 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,510 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) slightly sagged by 1.21 points or 0.04 percent to end at 2,569.38 points. The Tanzanian domestic Share Index plunged by 5.02 points or 0.11 percent to close at 4,608.83 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index remained constant to end at 2,980.38 points. Industrial & Allied sector index fell by 0.17 percent or 10.31 points to close at 6,225.14 points and Commercial services sector added 0.31 percent to settle at 4,057.33.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 1,634.27 million from 151,501 shares traded in 82 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 23,101.37 million from 2,067,266 shares traded in 67 deals. CRDB had 14,297 shares traded in 11 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 30,372 shares in 19 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 99,965 shares in 22 deals. DCB Commercial recorded 4,225 shares traded in 4 deals. TWIGA traded 1,045 shares in 13 deals and Swissport Tanzania Limited had turnover of 1,170 in 4 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with three gainers and five losers. Tanga Cement Company Limited gained 2.70 percent to settle at TZS 3,800, Swissport Tanzania Limited grew by 1.33 percent to close at TZS 8,370 and Acacia Mining Limited soared by 0.40 percent to end at TZS 7,600. On the other hand, Kenya Airways (-4.17 percent at TZS 115), Jubilee Holdings Limited (-2.26 percent at TZS 10,380), Nation Media Group (-2.17 percent at TZS 3,160), Tanzania Portland Cement Company (-1.71 percent to close at TZS 3,440) and East Africa Breweries Limited (-0.32 percent to settle at TZS 6,150).
